Hundreds of people attended a torchlight procession through the streets of Inverness on Friday to celebrate the opening of the Royal National Mod.
The procession, which started at Crown Primary School at 6.45pm, included school pupils, guests and competitors.
Bagpipers and drummers played for the crowd as they passed key landmarks, including the Town House, on the way to the official opening ceremony at Eden Court Theatre.
The nine day event will see more than 3,000 competitors take part in 200 competitions in areas such as Highland dancing, Gaelic music and song, sport, literature and drama.
This is the first time the Royal National Mod has been held in Inverness in 17 years.
