First time entrant Eilidh Cormack, 18, took the Oran Mor honours yesterday to win through to today’s gold medal competition. The Portree lass, daughter of former Mod gold medallist Arthur, said: “It really is all a bit mental. “But it is great to be in there with a chance of the top prize. It has been tremendous singing at Inverness.” The men’s Oran Mor competition was won by Donald Iain Brown, 46, Glasgow. Also going for gold in the women’s competition are Ceitlin Smith, from Lewis, Isabel MacLeod, Carloway, Lewis and Ainsley Hamill, Cardross. In the men’s competition challenging Donald Iain Brown are Angus MacLeod, Inverness and Iain Gordon, Nairn.
