The fire service has issued a warning to people cooking late at night after a blaze in an Inverness flat last night.
Three city crews were alerted to the fire in a two-storey, eight flat block in Hilton Cresent at around 11.25pm.
A man was able to escape the property however firefighters had to assist a woman to leave the smoke-filled building.
The man was treated at the scene by paramedics for breathing apparatus.
Crews used two hose reel jets and four sets of breathing apparatus during the incident.
They also used small tools to check for any signs of the fire spreading.
The service left the scene at 12.43am this morning.
Incident Commander, Station Manager Steven Bassindale said: “Most house fires start in the kitchen and we need everyone to understand the risks and take steps to reduce the chance of it happening to them.
“Becoming distracted while cooking is the most common reason for such fires, so people are urged never to leave the cooker without turning off the grill and the hob and removing pots or pans from the heat.
“If a fire does start then early warning is key to preventing tragedies, with working smoke alarms essential devices for every household.
“We provide free home fire safety visits to help residents reduce the risk of fire and increase the chance of escaping unhurt if a fire does occur.”
He added: “After we had dealt with the fire last night we also provided a number of residents with free smoke alarms.”
