A man has been taken into police custody after an alleged incident in a residential area of Inverness yesterday afternoon.
Police swooped on St Margaret’s Road, Dalneigh, shortly after 2pm.
A convoy of around seven police vehicles were sent to the scene, with residents reporting seeing officers in “riot equipment” on the street.
The surrounding area was closed off by police while they dealt with the situation at terrace of four two-storey houses.
However officers refused to release details of the incident yesterday, stating only that a man in his twenties was detained after being removed from a house in the quiet residential street.
It is understood that no one was injured.
But residents said they felt the response appeared heavy-handed.
One local man said: “There was police everywhere in the street when I looked out.
“It seemed like overkill to be honest but I’m sure they had their reasons.
“I saw policemen wearing protective equipment in the street.
“It all felt like some kind of hostage situation. They went into a house and came back out with a man and took him away.
“It was all very peaceable and there was no sign of any struggle at all.”
The convoy of police vehicles was seen leaving the area just after 3pm, around an hour after being called to the area.
A police spokesman said: “At approximately 2.03pm today, Monday November 3, Police Scotland received a report of a disturbance on St Margaret’s Road in the Dalneigh area of Inverness.
“A man in his twenties has been taken into police custody.”
