The first British woman to climb Everest will be in Inverness next week to give a talk for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.
Rebecca Stephens, who was also the first British woman to scale the Seven Summits, will talk about following in the footsteps of Ernest Shackleton by crossing Antarctica.
Her appearance in the north marks the 100th anniversary of Shackleton’s expedition.
Ms Stephens will give an insight into what can be learned from Shackleton’s inspiring show of courage and leadership.
RSGS spokeswoman Gemma McDonald said: “Rebecca’s talk is particularly relevant to our talk series Inspiring People, not only is Rebecca an incredibly inspiring person herself but she will also be discussing Ernest Shackleton’s epic journey across Antarctica.
“Shackleton battled unimaginably harsh conditions for two years, including the loss of Endurance, the expedition’s ship, yet managed to finish the expedition without losing a single crew member – an immense act of leadership and hugely inspiring.
Rebecca’s talk is also a brilliant ‘crossover’ talk, it is as much for the adventurer and explorer as it is for the business leader who wishes to inspire their team to excellence.”
Ms Stephens will be at the Highland Council’s chambers at Glenurquhart Road on Monday November 10.
The short tour will also be at Perth on Tuesday November 11 and Stirling on Wednesday November 12.
Admission is £8 for adults, and free for RSGS members.
