Thousands flocked to Bught Park in Inverness last night for an unforgettable bonfire and fireworks extravaganza.
Weather conditions were cold but ideally calm and dry for the event, and cheers went up as bursts of colour lit the skies above the Highland capital.
Families and friends stood beside the 50ft high bonfire as it towered above the pitches, keeping themselves warm from the close to zero temperatures.
People arrived early in order to get a front row position for the bonfire, which was lit at 7.30pm by Inverness Provost Alex Graham following a crowd countdown.
The riverbank pavements were crowded with pedestrians of all ages and stewards controlled the number of people walking across the Infirmary footbridge.
Music from the Inverness branch of Royal British Legion Scotland and City of Inverness Youth Pipe Bands entertained the crowds during the evening spectacle.
The fireworks display, which was accompanied by music with a sporting theme, started at 7.55pm and lasted for about 20 minutes, with families captivated by the colours as they burst into the night sky.
Peter Williams, from Milton of Leys, was at the event with his wife Lisa, daughter Charlotte, and his cousins from Liverpool. He said: “It’s amazing that so much of the Inverness population actually turns out for this.
“It’s a really impressive display and the kids get to stay up late at night.
“We have come here for the past two years and always enjoyed it. It’s important to support local events because if no one turns up to them then they simply don’t go ahead.”
Sergeant Gwen Ross, who was keeping the order at last night’s event, said: “This year’s event is one of the best attended yet. Several thousand people have turned up, and there has been no trouble at all.”
