A derelict Inverness city centre building has been almost completely flattened.
Demolition started last week on the terrace at 92-94 Academy Street and is expected to be completed at the end of the week.
However, the look of the north end of the street has already been transformed after the majority of the facade was torn down.
Only the central section of the building has been left standing and passers-by can now see into what is left of the building from the street.
The B-listed block will be completely razed to the ground and will be replaced by two new shops and a block of apartment buildings.
Developer Ark Estates and sister company William Gray Construction have planning permission to build 31 flats and the ground-floor shops at the site.
Construction on the new build will be started as soon as the demolition is completed.
Demolition crews started the process of clearing the building last week, largely using hand tools to strip the building back to basics.
But with this painstaking process completed, heavy machinery has now been brought in to tear down the remainder of the structure.
Highland Council will be responsible for 14 of the new flats, while the remaining 17 will be run by the Highland Housing Alliance (HHA).
Planning permission was granted for the flats in January this year, after Ark Estates were unable to find an operator for a hotel which they wanted to build on the site.
Last week, company director Willie Gray said that development should be swift at the site.
He said: “It’s been quite a lengthy process to get to this stage but now it’s under way people will see things moving quickly.
“If all goes well then the building will be down by the end of next week. “We can then start construction immediately.”
The development is one of a number of regeneration plans due for Academy Street, which has long been criticised for its rundown appearance.
At Ballantyne House, Alpha UK Property Fund Asset Company wants to create a 59-bedroom budget hotel.
Further down the street, the Cairngorm Brewery has taken over the historic AI Welders building and is planning to develop the existing ground floor into a bar.
