Emergency services were kept busy yesterday dealing with a spate of crashes in the Highlands, which caused disruption for hundreds of motorists.
In Inverness, one woman in her 50s was taken to Raigmore Hospital with back injuries following an accident on the A82 Inverness-Fort William road near the city centre.
The incident happened at about 3pm on the westbound dual carriageway near Harbour Road Roundabout, close to the American Golf shop.
Police and ambulance services were joined by two fire appliances and a heavy rescue unit.
Both lanes of the dual carriageway were blocked for about one hour following the collision before the road reopened.
A fire service spokeswoman said that no cutting gear was used at the scene. She added: “Fire crews helped move one female casualty with spinal injuries to the ambulance.”
An ambulance spokesman said: “One female has been taken to Raigmore Hospital with back pains.”
A separate two car collision took place earlier on another road in the city.
The accident happened at 1.30pm on the B9006 Culloden Road at the junction with the B9177 Old Perth Road.
One fire crew used a hose reel jet to clear oil and other debris off the road.
At the scene, a total of three cars were lined up beside the pavement in the left hand lane heading towards Simpson’s Garden Centre.
A blue Peugeot 307 and a purple Volkswagen Polo both had damage to their front end and oil was leaking from the Peugeot.
A black Mercedes was also parked beside the two vehicles but appeared to be undamaged. No one was hurt.
And one of the Highland’s main tourist routes was partially blocked due to a three car crash on the A.
The A82 accident, which also involved three cars, happened at 10.30am on the A82 Inverness-Fort William road north of Spean Bridge at Letterfinlay.
It is understood that no one was hurt in the crash.
