Ross-shire man jailed after road rage incident

A Ross-shire man was jailed for four months at Dingwall Sheriff Court yesterday for an “appalling” driving while being pursued by the police.

Dylan Campbell, 21, of 37 Sellar Place in Conon Bridge, admitted dangerous driving at excessive speeds.

During the episode he crashed into two vehicles at separate times, despite being followed by a marked police car signalling him to stop.

The shocking incident happened on June 6 this year on various parts of the road between Dingwall and the B9169 road at Leanaig by Conon Bridge.

At one point Campbell was on the Maryburgh roundabout when he overtook a bus, cutting in front of it causing it to break sharply and take evasive action to avoid a collision.

Then on the A835 Maryburgh-Conon Bridge road he overtook in the face of oncoming traffic and collided with a Volkswagen Passat, causing it damage.

Then on an unclassified road he continued to drive at excessive speed, failed to give way to traffic and collided with a Land Rover Freelander, causing his own vehicle to overturn onto its roof.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood said: “This most appalling driving was carried out over a sustained period. There is no reason for it at all. In my view the only appropriate sentence is a custodial one.”

Campbell was sentenced to four months detention and disqualified for two years. He is also required to undertake an extensive driving test when eligible.
