Halloween is coming to Inverness for a second time this weekend.
The city’s Fright Nights at Ness Islands were postponed last month due to the River Ness flooding the area but preparations are underway for the rescheduled scare shows.
The Inverness Common Good Fund sponsored entertainment will take place between 7pm and 9pm on Friday and between 5pm and 7pm on Saturday. Admission is free.
They will have a distinctly Scottish theme, with a number of famous ghosts returning to Inverness for their very own “homecoming unhappy hour” at Burke and Hare’s Tavern.
Among the VIPs will be Robert the Bruce and his Spider, Mary Queen of Scots, Bonny Prince Charlie, Tam O’ Shanter, Rabbie Burns and Alexander ‘Sawney’ Bean who is still upset at being executed due to what he claims was a misunderstanding involving the mass murder and cannibalisation of more than 1,000 people.
The ghosts will be brought to life by more than 100 performers from the Eden Court CREATIVE programme and the talents of Arts in Motion, Limelights and Highland Council’s Lighting Department.
In previous years the show attracted more than 10,000 spectators.
Similar numbers are expected to attend the event this year and drivers are advised that there will be limited parking in the Bught Park area and should allow themselves time to park elsewhere and walk to the site.
Councillor Glynis Sinclair, chairman of Highland Council’s Inverness events and festivals working group, said: “After months of rehearsals we are really excited about finally being able to stage this show. Everybody said that it was better to be late than weather beaten and we are really looking forward to being joined by hundreds of children in their scariest of costumes.”
