The Army housing estate near the Cameron Barracks in Inverness have reopened after being cordoned off this morning following reports of a suspicious package.
The police cordon on Wimberley Way at the junction with Viewfield Road was lifted at about 10.30am after the contents of the package – understood to be a military kitbag – were found to be innocent.
At the height of the scare nearby residents were asked to evacuate their homes or stay well away from doors and windows.
Police and Army personnel were in attendance along with a fire tender, ambulance and an ambulance support vehicle, while the bag was checked out.
Police received a report from the MoD just after 8am that a black kitbag was lying on the side of the road near to the junction with Burma Court.
