Staff at an Inverness car dealership decided to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas – by donating blood.
Macrae & Dick began its special donations for the Highland Blood Transfusion Service in 2012 as the festive season is a time when demand is high but supplies are low.
Katie Moir, North of Scotland Donor Services manager, said donations could drop by up to 20% as regular donors are busy with festivities.
She said: “Since our first visit to Macrae & Dick, 123 staff have attended and an amazing 104 live-saving donations have been made.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to all those involved in making the donor sessions happen.
“Winter weather conditions can present severe challenges for the blood supply.
“We are asking donors to help us to build our supplies over the coming weeks to ensure we have enough blood in stock to support patients over the busy festive period whatever the weather.”
Bill Maclean, finance director at Macrae and Dick, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to support the Highland Blood Transfusion Service with their Christmas campaign for the third year running.
“Macrae & Dick have arranged for a number of staff to take time out of their day to donate blood and make a difference again this Christmas.”
The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service is particularly looking for O Negative, A Negative and B Negative donors to give blood as soon as they can, as these are the blood groups which face the most pressure.
