Metal detectors will be used on the door of an Inverness pub again this evening as part of an ongoing crime clampdown.
Police officers using handheld metal detectors, known as ferroguard poles, will be deployed on the door of The Caledonian on High Street.
They were last used at the popular city centre bar in November, while police also made use of the devices at The King’s Highway in October.
Patrons entering the premises will be scanned and officers will be on hand to provide assistance if any suspicious objects are detected.
A spokesman for the police said: “By using the metal detectors at busy locations across the city, the the aim of the initiative is to reassure people that they can enjoy a safe night out in Inverness.
“Police Scotland and partner agencies involved in Operation Respect, will not tolerate weapons of any kind on the streets of Inverness and this forms one aspect of the ongoing commitment to keep people safe.”
In November 90 patrons were scanned with 35 voluntary searches carried out. All of the checks for weapons returned negative results.
The police spokesman added: “If there are any other establishments who feel they would benefit from the device, they are asked to contact crime prevention officers at Burnett Road police station.”
