Forecasters are predicting a return to wintry weather later this week.
The Met Office has issued an early yellow “be aware” warning for snow across the north on Wednesday and Thursday.
Up to 4in could accumulate on higher ground, with up to 2in on lower coastal areas.
The frequent snow showers will be accompanied by strong and gusty winds – reaching gale force at times – and motorists are being warned that this could lead to reduced visibility.
The warning covers the whole of the Highlands and islands, as well as the Western Isles, Orkney, Shetland, Moray and parts of Aberdeenshire.
