An Inverness footbridge will be closed for essential repairs next week.
Greig Street Bridge, which is 140 years old, will be shut from 8pm on Monday until 6am the next day to replace a four-metre section of the timber walkway.
The bridge was originally built in 1880-81 and opened in May 1882 connecting the west bank of the Ness at Greig Street and the east bank at Bank Street.
It was built at a cost of £1,400, which is roughly £200,000 in today’s prices and has stood the test of time, albeit some repairs including replacing all the cables in 1952.
The essential repairs being carried out on the bridge require it to be closed to the public overnight.
To prevent people from accessing the bridge, barriers fencing the bridge off will be placed at either end.
Highland Council are advising people to use an alternative route upstream at Ness Bridge to cross over the river.
