It is understood that Colin Macaulay has stepped down on health grounds. His resignation will come into effect from March 15 and a by-election could be held on May 7. The SNP member has held a seat in the four member Nairn ward since 2012. The other members in the ward are Laurie Fraser (Independent), Michael Green (Independent) and Liz MacDonald (SNP). The current political representation of the 80 member council is Independent 34, SNP 21, Liberal Democrat 12, Labour eight and Highland Alliance five.
