A new puffin crossing will be installed on Culloden Road in Inverness – the site of a number of accidents in recent years.

The crossing will be put in place adjacent to Brinckman Terrace on a narrow but busy stretch of the B9006 that is a cause for concern for locals.

Residents had voiced concerns over the safety of the road, particularly parents who had children crossing it to get to Cradlehall Primary School.

Improvements on Culloden Road

Councillor Ken Gowans has long been pushing for more safety measures along Culloden Road, particularly at the accident blackspot that is its junction with Tower Road.

Speaking about this most recent development, he said: “Residents in the local community have been highlighting for some time the difficulties they have had when crossing this narrow but very busy road.

“Along with the road safety team we met parents, children and local residents from both sides of the B9006 on site.

“Following the discussion and review of all the work previously undertaken I am delighted that we can announce that we will be installing the new crossing as soon as possible.”

Speed assessments, pedestrians surveys and road safety assessments ultimately helped get the new crossing confirmed and are part of an ongoing project to improve road safety in the Cradlehall area.

Traffic calming measures, kerb dropping, crossing points and junction narrowing works on both Caulfield Road and Castlehill Road have also been used to help make the road safer for all who use it.
