A blueprint for the future development of a scenic part of Inverness will go on display in the community next week.
The draft masterplan for Muirtown and South Kessock has been drawn up by Highland Council in order to highlight the opportunities for development and regeneration in the area.
The area encompasses the whole of South Kessock along the River Ness and Beauly Firth, Carsegate industrial estate, Clachnaharry Locks and the Muirtown Basin.
As well as providing new homes and business space, it is proposed to create new tourism and leisure facilities.
The draft plan was drawn up following a series of public events where local people gave their views about what should happen.
The document is the subject of an eight week consultation period which closes on April 2.
Comments about the draft will contribute to any changes to the brief before a final version is presented to the Inverness area committee, and then the planning, development and infrastructure committee for adoption as supplementary guidance.
Leader of the City Committee, Councillor Ian Brown thanked the groups that had taking part in last year’s workshops, adding that he would encourage people to take part in the next phase.
He added: “Once adopted the development brief will be important as it will highlight agreed regeneration priorities for the area and can be used to help bring in any future bids for funding. This is the chance for people to get involved and to help shape how this area of Inverness develops for years to come.”
The draft brief is available on the council’s website and at their offices in Glenurquhart Road, Inverness. It can also be viewed at Merkinch Community Centre.
Staff from Highland Council and Scottish Canals will be at two events next week to discuss the masterplan.
A drop-in session will be held at Muirtown Primary School on Wednesday March 11 from 3.30pm-6.15pm, with a discussion from 7pm.
On Thursday March 12, the drop-in exhibition will be at Merkinch Community Centre from 2pm-5.15pm, with a discusssion from 6.45pm.
Any comments on the draft development brief must be received by the council by Friday April 2.
