Eight people – including two pedestrians – have been seriously injured in a crash at a busy Inverness roundabout.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the Inshes roundabout just after 7pm following reports of a multiple-vehicle crash.
A Ford Transit van and a Honda people carrier were badly damaged.
Two people from either car, as well as two pedestrians were taken to Raigmore Hospital.
It is understood their injuries are all serious, but not life-threatening.
An ambulance service spokeswoman said: “All I can say at this stage is that we have taken eight casualties with varying degree of injuries to hospital.”
The vehicles collided at the entrance of Sir Walter Scott Drive into the roundabout, between the Tesco supermarket and the police headquarters.
It appeared that both vehicles were travelling in the same direction towards the roundabout when they collided.
The two vehicles came to rest in the central reservation separating the two lanes of the road as it enters the roundabout.
Police have closed the road while they investigate the collision.
Firefighters were also called to the scene of the accident but were stood down after the casualties were removed from the vehicles.
