An Inverness based retired Royal Marine soldier is set to embark upon a gruelling cycling challenge.
Rod MacDonald, 68, of Burn Road, Inverness, plans to cycle alone from Ardnamurchan to Buchan Ness, the most western to eastern point in Scotland.
He will start the challenge on Monday, May 19 and expects to complete the 250 miles over five days.
Mr MacDonald is marking the organisation’s 350 year anniversary and raising much needed funds for the Royal Marine’s Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF).
The RMCTF is run exclusively by retired Marines and provides support for both serving and retired Corps members and their dependants with current efforts focused on the needs of the wounded and injured.
Mr MacDonald, who served in the Marines from 1966 – 1975, said: “With the 350th birthday of the Royal Marines in 2014, it is an ideal time to fundraise for this cause, which is very close to my heart.”
Rod is currently gathering sponsorship and hopes to raise in excess of £3,000. No stranger to cycle challenges,
He previously cycled from Lizard Point in Cornwall to Dunnet Head in Caithness, mainland Britain’s orth in 2004 for MacMillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
