An investigation has been launched after a man was struck by a lorry on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road in the Highlands.
Police and paramedics were alerted at around 5.45am this morning following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a lorry between Inverness and Nairn.
The man was taken to hospital following the incident, which happened between the Culloden junction and the Smithton Roundabout.
The A96 was closed to all traffic for more than three hours as officers worked at the scene.
The road was reopened shortly after 9.10am.
The male pedestrian was rushed to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.
Medical staff have confirmed the man’s injuries are not considered life threatening.
Sergeant Neil Macdonald of the Highland and Islands road policing unit said: “We are working to establish the full circumstances of this collision and would urge anyone who has any information to get in touch.
“We would be particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the road around the time of the incident.
“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 0409 of February 14.”
Diversion through Culloden
A police van was seen leaving Inverness Police Station on Burnett Road shortly before 6am under blue lights, before heading east towards the incident.
Traffic was diverted through Balloch and Culloden along Barn Church Road as emergency crews dealt with the incident.
It took motorists up to 45 minutes to make the journey along the diversion with temporary traffic lights in Culloden adding to the disruption.
