It may be a big success on the screen, but big-budget US drama Outlander is also proving to be a big hit for Scottish tourism.
Historic Scotland is reporting a boost of more than 30% in visitor numbers to Doune Castle, near Stirling, since it was first featured in the series.
The castle is one of the key locations of the historic drama which follows the story of Claire Randell, a nurse from 1946, who is swept back in time to the 18th century where she meets and marries Jamie Fraser, amid the Jacobite Uprising.
Here are eight other locations, featured in the show, from across the country.
1) Culloden – the historic battle plays a central part in the Outlander storyline.
2) Loch Ness – Claire and her companions go off in search of the loch’s most famous resident.
3) Clava Cairns – The standing stones are believed to be the inspiration for the mysterious Craigh na Dun, which sends Claire back in time.
4) Rannoch Moor – This stunning scenery provides the backdrop to Claire’s time travel.
5) Urquhart Castle – The castle, on the banks of Loch Ness, was the location for several scenes in the series.
6) The Royal Mile, Edinburgh – The famous street in the nation’s capital is one of the locations mentioned in the novels that the series is based on.
7) Falkland, Fife – The picturesque village doubled for 1940s Inverness in the show.
8) The Highland Folk Museum, Newtonmore – The museum’s turf-roofed crofts were used as the location for the 18th century MacKenzie village.
