Inverness Leisure pools to re-open this afternoon

Many Highland leisure facilities are set to merge in December.
Many Highland leisure facilities are set to merge in December.

The largest swimming pool complex in the Highlands will re-open to the public at 4pm this afternoon.

Inverness Leisure’s two pools were closed last week after a safety inspection concluded there was a faulty window high above the water which could be displaced by high winds.

Scaffolding was erected during Easter weekend and a structural engineer assessed the window earlier today and has now fixed the problem.

A spokesman for Inverness Leisure said: “On inspection it was clear there was one window along the roof junction that required immediate attention and this has now been attended to.

“As the works undertaken by the contractor is sufficient to enable the pools to reopen, we can confirm that the public will still see the scaffolding remain in place to enable further assessments to be undertaken and the permanent repairs carried out over the next couple of weeks. We can however assure our many customers that the area is now deemed to be safe therefore allowing the pools to reopen for the remainder of the school Easter break.

“We would once again apologise for the inconvenience this brief closure has caused but hope our customers understand our reasoning for taking the decision to do so. We would also thank the many customers who have been in touch over the last few days with kind words and support for the safety decision being taken so quickly.”

Both pools closed to the public last Wednesday after a safety inspection identified a safety risk with a window on the mid section of the roof on the pool side of the building.
