The fire emerged above the M&Co shop on Academy Street. It appears that the roof has been permanently damaged but that the fire has been contained to one building. Leader of the Highland Council Drew Hendry said: “I’m grateful for the work of emergency serviced who worked quickly to bring the fire under control otherwise it could have been much worse. “There are likely to be disruptions for businesses on Academy street in the days ahead, which is a key route for buses and the railway station.”
