City centre businesses will be given an update on the possible long term effect of the Academy Street fire this evening.
A meeting will be held this evening to update businesses on the situation with the fire damaged M&Co building, which has prevented traffic from using Academy Street for the last week.
Pedestrian access was restored yesterday but the street will not fully reopen to traffic until next week at the earliest because of structural concerns about the building.
A multi-agency response team, including Highland Council, police, the fire and rescue service and Inverness Bid, are meeting regularly on the site and will update businesses on progress this evening.
The closure of Academy Street has caused heavy traffic on other main streets across the city at busy times.
Traffic approaching the city centre on Millburn Road/Crown Road signs are in place to instruct car drivers that there is no way through Academy Street.
Service buses, delivery vehicles and taxis are allowed and directed to enter Union Street, Church Street and turn left down Fraser Street on to Bank Street to turn left. All other traffic if required, will be allowed to make a U-turn to drive back towards where they came from.
If approaching the city centre on Chapel Street traffic is directed to turn right from which they can access Friars Lane, turning left into Church Street, turn left into Post Office lane and then left into and down Academy Street.
