A third ward has been closed at the Highlands’ flagship hospital because of fears over the winter vomiting bug.
Two patients in Ward 5C have shown symptoms of norovirus although an outbreak has not been confirmed.
And the numbers of affected patients in two other wards has increased.
A total of 17 patients have norovirus on Ward 2C and nine in Ward 7C.
Both wards are also closed.
Health bosses have reiterated their warning to members of the public who have been suffered vomiting and diarrhoea to stay away from the hospital to prevent the further spread of the highly infectious bug.
Dr Adam Brown, consultant microbiologist for NHS Highland, said: “We are being cautious by closing 5C but we know norovirus is in the community and would rather be over cautious while we assess the situation.
“By restricting visiting to the affected area it helps hospital staff protect the health, privacy and dignity of our patients.
“Again we would stress that people do not come to the hospital/s to visit if they have, or live with someone who has, had any vomiting or diarrhoea within the previous 48hrs. By doing this we will be able to limit the spread as much as possible.
“Hospital staff will of course be very happy to talk to visitors on the phone so they can get updates on how their relatives are.”
Anyone who feels that visiting the hospital is essential should phone the ward before travelling there.
None of the affected wards should be visited except by prior arrangement.
