First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was “overwhelmed” when around 500 supporters greeted her on a visit to Inverness as part of her whistle-stop tour of the nation.
She forecast that “a massive team of SNP MPs” would be making its way to Westminster after Thursday’s general election vote.
In relaxed mood, she joked that she had posed for “millions” of “selfies” during her tour.
Ms Sturgeon joined Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey SNP candidate Drew Hendry on the streets of Inverness.
The Highland Council leader is challenging Liberal Democrat Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander in one of the and closest-fought seats in the UK.
Surrounded by nationalists, Ms Sturgeon said: “We could be – and, I stress, could be – doing something the SNP has never, ever done in our history and that is win a Westminster election in Scotland.
“If we are going to achieve that aim then I need all of you to get out there over these next five days and campaign like you have never campaigned before.
“Knock on as many doors, deliver as many leaflets, speak to as many of your friends, your family, your workmates and tell them this – if we want Scotland’s voice to be heard in Westminster more loudly than it has ever been heard before then we need to vote SNP on Thursday.”
She added: “If we work as hard as we know we can, we’re going to send a massive team of SNP MPs all the way to Westminster to stand up for Scotland.”
