A major upgrade to gas works in Nairn will begin next week and take about 16 weeks.
The engineering work will be begin on Monday in Harbour Street near the junction with Society Street.
The project is part of an ongoing gas mains replacement programme.
SGN is investing £130,000 to replace metal gas mains with modern polyethylene pipe which has a minimum lifespan of around 80 years.
The work will be carried out in three phases and mean some road closures as a safety precaution although access for residents’ vehicles will be maintained.
Phase one, lasting about four weeks, will be in Harbour Street between the junctions with Society Street and King Street. There will be no access for through traffic. A diversion will be in place.
The phase two work will be in Harbour Street between the junction with King Street and the car park at the south end of Harbour Street, taking about eight weeks.
The third phase will be on the A96 at the Harbour Street/High Street/Bridge Street/St Ninian Road junction.
That stretch will take an estimated four weeks to complete.
During that phase it will not be possible to access Harbour Street or High Street from Bridge Street/St Ninian Road.
And traffic will not be able to access Bridge Street/St Ninian Road from Harbour Street.
The work will be carried out between 8am and 4.15pm on Mondays to Fridays with extended hours and weekend work “as required to ensure the project is completed as quickly as possible,” according to SGN.
SGN team manager Alex Torrance said: “We understand that roadworks can be frustrating and would like to apologise for inconvenience caused.
“We would like to assure everyone that we will do everything we can to minimise disruption and complete our works as quickly as possible. And we would like to thank everyone for their patience while we carry out our essential works.”
