They included refurbishing two isolation cells, designed to hold difficult or violent prisoners. He said that one cell was “bleak” with only a concrete plinth and a mattress to sleep on, while the other has a bed. Neither isolation cell has a table or chair and both were cold. Other recommendations include that Inverness Prison should: – issue prisoners with new underwear and socks – allow prisoners to retain footwear they are wearing on admission – should ensure all prisoners are given equal time with their visitors – ensure that adequate and appropriately adapted cells are in place for disabled prisoners.
