A Highland estate that featured in the TV hit series Monarch of the Glen has been sold for an undisclosed sum.
The 6,846 acres of Balavil, between Kingussie and Kincraig, had been on the market since 2013, initially with an asking price of £7million but dropped to £5.25million in recent months.
The name of the buyer is expected to be revealed this week.
Allan Macpherson-Fletcher, who inherited Balavil from an aunt 40 years ago, has planning permission to build a new home for him and his wife Marjorie within the estate.
He said: “We’re delighted that it’s going to be in good hands and will get the degree of restoration that neighbouring estates have had in recent times.
“It’s been a long time in coming. We’re happy with the new owner. I think he’s going to do a good job here and restore it to its former glory.”
Mr Macpherson-Fletcher declined to identify the buyer or reveal the sale price.
He said tenants of the estate’s eight cottages had been kept informed and most were staying on.
Tenant farmer John Pirie, 55, is, however, leaving Balavil, to the sadness of his son Scott who will also depart.
Their entire inventory of farm machinery will be auctioned on the estate on Saturday.
Scott, 25, who was born at Balavil and runs several businesses from the estate, said: “It’s very upsetting. My father’s been there for 29 years. I’m upset for him that I cannot take over from him.
“I could never start up a farm of my own. It was always a dream of mine to succeed my father. I can’t do that now.”
It is understood the new laird intends retaining the livestock.
Mr Macpherson-Fletcher said: “The farm tenant had scheduled to depart at this time anyway. His tenancy with me ran out in May of last year. He and I have had a gentleman’s agreement ever since then, but he has decided to quit farming and is getting out in a week’s time.”
