This amazing picture shows one of nature’s most spectacular marine spectacles sights taking place only yards from a Highland shore.
The dolphins which live in the Moray Firth are famed for their aerobatics but this week they put on a brilliant display for visitors to the Black Isle.
Luckily amateur photographer Alister Kemp was on hand to record the captivating display, which took place at Chanonry Point at Fortrose.
In the shot, one of the animals is horizontal and appears to be flying over the chilly waters of the Moray Firth, watched by another of the mammals.
Chanonry Point is a well known dolphin-watching spot and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
With the weather finally warming up, the crowds are also starting to increase.
Mr Kemp was among their number on Monday afternoon, making the most of a day off from his work at Invergordon Distillery.
He said: “Photography is just a hobby.
“I started taking photographs seven years ago and I go to Chanonry Point whenever I have spare time. I must have hundreds of photos of them now.
“But Monday’s display was the best I have seen. The dolphins were so active.
“You need a fast camera. I use a Canon 7D which can take 10 shots a second so I had a good chance of getting something.”
Mr Kemp’s pictures have now been shared on a social networking site, reaching more than 1,000 “likes” by last night.
But despite the appreciation, he still plans to return later in the week, depending on the tides.
The best time to see the creatures is on a rising tide, when they stray close to shore to feed.
