A contractor is being sought to widen two approach roads to a busy junction on the outskirts of Inverness.
Highland Council are planning to widen Culloden Road and Sir Walter Scott Drive by around 10ft to create extra lanes as they approach Inshes Roundabout.
The widened sections will stretch back more than 160ft from the bottleneck junction, which is subject to wider plans for transport in the south of the city.
The work is estimated to cost around £100,000 and will involve moving pedestrian crossings and street lights.
Drainage in the area will need to be altered, while the work will also take place close to underground fibre-optic cables.
On the advert, the council state: “The area is highly traffic sensitive and traffic control will be restricted to outwith peak periods.”
Last year the council revealed plans to change the roundabout and replace it with a crossroads controlled by traffic lights.
The junction currently provides access to Inshes Retail Park, Raigmore Hospital, the police HQ, the Drakies housing scheme and the A9 trunk road.
However, the exact plans cannot be set in stone until finalised details of Transport Scotland’s proposed link road between the A9 and the A96 at Smithton Roundabout are known.
