Art students from Inverness have captured the best of the Highland landscape in a colourful mural commissioned by a local firm.
The mural has been created by Inverness College UHI students for Highland Campervans, based in Inverness.
The company approached the college after it identified a space for a large piece of artwork following the redesign of its shop floor. General manager Michael Taylor felt it would be a great opportunity to showcase local talent, and approached the college and its students about setting up the project.
Given the business’s links to the tourism industry, the students’ brief was to produce a display that illustrated the beauty of the Highland landscape throughout the seasons.
A group of 15 art and design students teamed up to take on the project, and after 15 weeks, presented the large 12-sectioned mural to Highland Campervans.
Mr Taylor said: “Many of our customers want to buy or hire a motorhome or campervan because they love the highlands, and enjoy nothing more than spending time admiring our fantastic landscape and environment.
“The mural captures so many of the region’s celebrated features beautifully. We’re really delighted with the students’ work and would like to thank them for taking on the project. We’re now looking forward to unveiling it to our customers.”
Alison Woodside, art and design lecturer at Inverness College UHI, added: “It’s really important that students gain experience of working with businesses, as this allows them to build the skills they need for the workplace at the same time as developing their creative talents.
“The mural project with Highland Campervans presented the students with a fantastic challenge, which was to work as a team to produce 12 individual sections that combined effectively to create a Highland scene, as requested in the client brief. The project has been extremely enjoyable and a huge success.”
