The landlord of an Inverness pub is helping Caley Thistle supporters make their team’s first ever European away game by organising a chartered flight to Romania next month.
Rory Munro, of the Gellions pub, has arranged for a 148-seat passenger plane to fly fans to Bucharest ahead of the club’s Europa league second leg qualifier against FC Astra Giurgiu on July 23.
The flight, which will be operated by an unnamed Romanian airline, will leave Glasgow at 6.30am on July 22, arriving in Bucharest at 11.55am local time.
Travel has been arranged by Air Travel Organisers’ License holders, Sports Options, and package deals, include a night’s stay at a three-star hotel, start from £529 per person.
The prices also include transport by bus from Bucharest airport to the hotel, to the game itself the next day and back to the airport again after the match.
Mr Munro has also arranged for three coaches to take supporters from the Bridge Street pub down to Glasgow and back again for an extra £20 per person.
Mr Munro said: “We want local fans to get behind the club and, as a local pub, we want to play our part in that.
“After the cup final I think Inverness should kick on and the crowd should continue to get behind them. On the Sunday after the final, the streets were lined up and if we could keep that spirit going for Europe then that would be a great thing.
“I have started to notice in recent weeks that more kids are wearing Caley Thistle tops around the town as well.”
Caley Thistle spokesman Don Johnstone confirmed yesterday that the club would shortly be announcing its own flight to Romania, adding: “We are delighted for everybody who does their bit to help get fans out to the game, especially to somewhere as far away as Romania. It’s fantastic that the Gellions are going to that length to help.”
The Scottish Cup holders will make their Europa League debut at home to the Romanians on July 16.
Tickets for the home match will go on general release tomorrow.
