A film crew is coming from Canada to shoot scenes during Inverness Highland Games.
The Discovery Channel’s Daily Planet programme is making a special show about Scotland and will major on Highland heavy and reigning champion Sinclair Patience, from Tain, who will be filmed in training and in competition as he defends his title on Saturday, July 18, at Bught Park in Inverness. Mr Patience became the first in history to throw a 252lb stone over the 5ft bar twice.
Each of the individual heavy events contested at the Highland Games requires a unique combination of techniques, strength and speed, and the film will focus on the physics and mechanics behind the sports.
Inverness Highland Games chairman Angus Dick said: “Little is known about the mechanics of the traditional heavy events staged at Highland Games.
“It will be fascinating to discover what is happening from a scientific perspective as our cabers are turned or our weights and stones are launched into the air, and we are really looking forward to welcoming the film crew to Inverness next week.”
