Controversial plans to convert a large house in Inverness into bedsits for the homeless were re-lodged yesterday not long after it was revealed they had been withdrawn.
City Apartments and Highland Homeless Trust are proposing changing 35 Glenurquhart Road into a house of multiple occupancy (HMO).
The plan was given the go ahead by Highland Council’s planning committee in February but the application was withdrawn when it went before the Highland Licensing Board due to a technical issue.
Alex Gilchrist, business manager at the Highland Homeless Trust, said: “The accommodation is needed and we thought that this particular property was in a good place. It is not in the town centre but is still convenient enough for the people living there to get in to town.”
A spokeswoman for Highland Council had said this week that it was likely that an application for a licence would be resubmitted.
A Highland Council report states that the accommodation could house six and would be used specifically for young homeless people
The hostel would have 24-hour supervision and accommodation for a warden.
