A Highland Council by-election will be held on October 8 to replace former leader Drew Hendry who has resigned following his successful bid to become the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey MP.
The Aird and Loch Ness ward has four representatives. The others are independents Margaret Davidson and Helen Carmichael, and Liberal Democrat Hamish Wood.
The notice of election will be published on August 20. The votes will be counted on October 9.
The current political representation of the council is 32 independent, 20 SNP, 11 Liberal Democrat, eight Labour, five Highland Alliance and three non-aligned.
