Work is to start soon on road safety improvements at an Inverness problem junction.
Highland Council has awarded a contract at the Barn Church Road/Tower Road/Keppoch Road four-way junction to Coffey Construction.
The project includes localised widening of Barn Church Road at the Tower Road and Keppoch Road junctions, the introduction of a pelican crossing at Tower Road and new traffic signals with revised phasing to eliminate right turns across live traffic lanes.
Manually controlled four-way temporary traffic lights will operate for the duration of the works which are scheduled to start next Wednesday (August 19) and last until early October.
Delays to traffic are expected during the working period of 7am-7pm Monday to Friday, and 7am-2pm on Saturdays. Road users are urged to use alternative routes (A96 trunk road or B9006 Culloden Moor) if possible for the duration of the works.
Works on the carriageway will be restricted during daily peak periods (8am-9am and 5pm-6pm).
Priority through the roadworks will be given to buses during the works and also in the new traffic light arrangement.
Some preliminary enabling works to move the water main and to set up the site offices will take place this week and next. A spokeswoman for the council said the impact of that on traffic should be minimal.
Ends.
