Another senior Highland councillor is putting his hat in the ring to stand as a Highlands and islands regional list seat at next year’s Holyrood election.
Councillor Ken Gowans, who has represented Inverness South since 2012, is current SNP whip on Highland Council and convener of the party’s Inverness City Branch.
Mr Gowans is also chairman of the Inverness City Arts.
He hopes to bring his decades of local, national and international experience to benefit everyone in the Highlands and Islands.
Mr Gowans said: “I have lived and worked in Scotland and Canada, and more recently represented Highland’s political interests in Romania.
“I work hard in my ward but often feel frustrated as there is so much more I know I could accomplish in Holyrood and ultimately in an independent Scotland.
“The next five or so years will be one of the most important periods in Scotland’s history so it is vital we have MSPs with experience and skills, as well as passion, to ensure our area is well represented.”
An internal selection process has already started and will take place over the next few months.
