Five candidates will vie for the council seat vacated by former council leader Drew Hendry.
Four woman and one man are standing in the Aird and Loch Ness by-election, which will be held on October 8.
Mr Hendry stood down from his seat after being elected as the MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey in May.
The ward covers a huge area, comprising Loch Ness and the surrounding area, Beauly, Kirkhill, Fort Augustus and Foyers.
The candidates are: George Cruickshank (Scottish Conservatives), Jean Davis (Scottish LibDems), Emma Knox (SNP), Zofia Fraser (independent) and Vikki Trelfer, (Scottish Greens).
The other councillors for the ward are Helen Carmichael, Margaret Davidson and Hamish Wood.
Polling will take place between 7 am and 10 pm on Thursday October 8 and votes will be counted in Phipps Hall, Beauly, the following day.
The single transferable vote system will be used, meaning that voters should number their candidates in order of choice.
Anyone eligible to vote in the by-election can apply for either a postal vote or to vote by proxy. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday September 23 and the deadline to apply to vote by proxy is Wednesday September 30.
