A secluded Highland estate which has its “big house” on a river island has been sold on the eve of an auction for an undisclosed sum.
The estate was offered for a fraction of its original £15million asking price.
Edinburgh property agent Savills has confirmed that Eilean Aigas at Kiltarlity near Beauly which was owned by reclusive Canadian telecoms tycoon Brendan Clouston, has been withdrawn from an intended auction next Monday.
Evelyn Channing of Savills said: “We have completed the sale and are now going to withdraw it from the auction.”
She would not reveal any details about the price or the buyer.
The asking price for the “modern-day Balmoral”, as it was nicknamed by locals, had been “in excess of £3million”.
Mr Clouston had stepped out of the shadows, briefly, to add his support to the campaign against massive pylons being built along the Beauly-Denny transmission line.
It is understood he made a rare recent visit to collect prized pictures from the walls of the mansion.
