Captain Sensible, founder member of iconic punk band The Damned declared his love for Ullapool last night at the start of this year’s Loopalu music festival.
Speaking from an Ullapool bathed in sunshine, event organiser Rob Hicks reported that the singer and guitarist – aka Raymond Burns – was “blown away” by the beauty of the Wester Ross port where his band is headlining this weekend.
The promoter said: “The campsite is almost full. The village has been getting busier all week. We had people here from Tuesday camping. By Wednesday there were 300 or 400 and by Thursday we had about 1,000 people arriving.
“We’ve kicked off and, hopefully, the weather and the gods will be good for us.
“I just bumped into Captain Sensible wandering around the village and he said he was bowled over by the scenery and the setting. And that does it for me – that’s what it’s all about.”
The 10-year-old festival, which doubles the population of the tranquil village for the weekend, has been another sell-out.
Last night’s line-up featured Reverend and the Makers, Khartoum Heroes, Skipinnish, Little Mammoths, Spring Break and the Ullapool Pipe band.
Tonight, The Temperance Movement make their return to Loopallu. Other acts include The Supernaturals and Catholic Action.
