A Nairn hotel has silenced concerns about noise – by giving rowdy drinkers free lollipops.
The Star Hotel in the town was granted permission by Highland councillors yesterday to extend its opening hours, despite objections from two neighbours over noise concerns.
Landlady Audrey Macdonald revealed that one technique to quieten noisy patrons was by handing out the free sweets.
She told members of the council’s licensing board “it might sound silly but it works”.
The board heard that the approach had already been adopted by pubs all over the country.
They unanimously granted permission to the hotel to stay open an hour later until 1am between Thursday and Sunday.
It will also now begin serving at 11am on Sunday mornings, where it has previously opened at 12.30pm
Councillors also granted permission for the hotel to make use of extended opening hours over the festive period.
