Plans have been lodged with the local authority for 58 new homes on the site of a demolished social work office in Inverness.
Highland Housing Alliance wants to build the properties at Glendoe Terrace in Merkinch.
The site is the former home of the council’s social work buildings, which were knocked down earlier this year.
The £7million development would include two blocks of one-bedroom flats.
There will also be semi-detached three-bedroom “cottage flats” designed for low-cost ownership, mid-market rental and social housing.
The completed site would have 88 parking spaces.
It is being developed by the housing alliance, which now owns the ground, in collaboration with the council.
The higher storey blocks would face on to Glendoe Terrace itself, which the designers say is in keeping with the surrounding properties.
The site has also been zoned for housing under the local plan for the area.
A full planning application has now been lodged with Highland Council.
Highland Housing Alliance chief executive, Gail Matheson, said: “We are excited about bringing forward such a large site in Inverness city, and the opportunity that it will bring new, much-needed homes.
“The final mix will ensure that a wide range of tenures will be met.
“The HHA has already carried out the demolition works for the buildings which had been on the site including the former social work buildings and former Hall & Tawse yard, as HHA had purchased the site some time ago.”
Work could start on the development early next year, subject to the plans being approved by the council.
