Last year's Inverness Street Festival
Last year's Inverness Street Festival

The streets of Inverness will be packed with dancing grannies, cowboy routines and circus tricks with the return of the city’s annual street festival.

The sixth festival will feature for the first time the award winning street entertainer Fraser Hooper, who has performed his routine in more than 30 countries.

The festival is organised by Inverness Bid to promote the city centre, with events taking place in the Victorian Market, High Street, Falcon Square and in the Eastgate Centre each day from tomorrow until Saturday, October 17.

A returning favourite to the festival is balloon model expert POP who will create a “Balloonarama” over the course of the festival in the Victorian Market.

Other popular acts making a comeback include Granny Turismo, who have performed their shopping trolley dance routines at every festival so far, as well as family cowboy show Duke Loopin and circus stunts with The Jerome Show.

Jackie Cuddy, Eastgate Centre manager, said “Eastgate retailers are excited about the return of the street festival which brings a real buzz to the area.

“We are delighted to be supporting the festival again this year as it continues to grow along with the quality of the acts performing at it.”

Mike Smith, Bid manager said “The Inverness Street Festival offers three days of madness, mayhem and fun encouraging people to come to the city centre and be entertained in the wider retail area.

“Previous market research has shown that 77% of people interviewed had been attracted to the city centre because of the festival.”

The festival is jointly funded by Inverness Bid, Eastgate Centre and the Inverness Common Good Fund.

Other acts on the bill include stuntmen Figo, a mix of escapology and comedy performed by Todd Various and the TNT Youth Street Band who will perform in the city centre on Saturday.
