Malfunctioning traffic lights have caused severe disruption at a major Inverness junction this afternoon.
The signals on the Raigmore Interchange, which links the A9 Inverness to Perth and the A96 Inverness to Aberdeen roads, have become stuck on red.
The problems have caused traffic to queue back from the lights onto the roundabout.
One motorist reported that it had taken about 50 minutes to drive from the Millburn Roundabout to the Raigmore Interchange, a journey of just a few hundred yards.
The traffic lights only activate at peak times to allow southbound traffic access from the A9 onto the interchange.
Inverness motorist Houston Brown was caught up up in the problems and said that drivers had been forced to ignore the red lights in order to clear the junction.
He said: “It was absolute gridlock on the road towards Nairn. It took me 50 minutes to do 600yds from the Millburn Roundabout.
“For long periods the traffic just wasn’t moving at all.”
