A pensioner who was involved in a collision with a lorry in Nairn which left another woman dead is in a stable condition in hospital.
Police confirmed that the woman, who suffered serious injuries in the incident, remains in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
The second woman was confirmed to have died at the scene last night.
Both women are in their 80s and were hit by the lorry at a pedestrian crossing on Academy Street, part of the A96 Inverness to Aberdeen road, near Nairn’s town centre.
The incident happened about 3.30pm on Thursday, with the road remaining closed for several hours afterwards while police investigated the scene.
The male driver of the articulated lorry was uninjured.
A police spokesman confirmed this morning that inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
He also urged any witnesses of the incident to contact police on 101.
