Two NHS Highland workers have scooped top awards at the Scottish Health Awards 2015.
Gavin Hookway, the north health board’s senior quality improvement lead, was awarded the quality champion of the year award for his work at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
And Pauline Jespersen collected the nurse of the year award for her work as a practice nurse partner and integrated team leader at Lorn Medical Centre in Oban, where she has been based for the past 15 years.
Mrs Jespersen was recognised for her work which has led to several improvements in Oban, including a redesign of services for patients.
She has also been credited with running a high performing general practice with very positive feedback from patients.
Mr Hookway has been described as being very motivated and approachable, with his efforts in raising standards across NHS Highland linked to a variety of improvements for patients across the north.
NHS Highland chief executive Elaine Mead said: “I am absolutely thrilled that two members of staff from NHS Highland have received awards.
“It’s a culmination of a lot of hard work, talent and professionalism that they have contributed over the years. Gavin and Pauline are outstanding at their jobs but they are also excellent team players.
She added: “Getting quality improvement right is vital for the future and Gavin’s award also reflects the great work happening by staff and partners across Highland.
“To win the Nurse of the year Award, with so many outstanding nurses in the country is amazing. I know Pauline will be both humbled and honoured but she is a unique individual, making a unique contribution and a very worthy winner.”
Every year, the Scottish Health Awards recognise and reward the dedicated NHS staff, support workers, volunteers, and specialist teams who go the extra mile to provide outstanding patient care.
