William Arkinson made the claim as officers drove him to Burnett Road Police Station in Inverness. The 43-year-old – who the sheriff said had an “appalling record” shouted and swore the officers and told them he had a bomb. Once at the police station, he assaulted two officers by spitting at them. He previously admitted the two charges, and appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court for sentencing yesterday. Sheriff Margaret Neilson ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work, and warned if he did not comply he would be sent to jail. The court heard Arkinson, of 16 Market Square, Alness, had recently been released from prison when the offence happened February 9.
