The intensive treatment unit (ITU) at the north’s biggest hospital has reopened after being closed for three days due to an outbreak of norovirus.
Two patients on the ITU ward at Raigmore Hospital tested positive for the winter vomiting bug on November 17, causing it to be closed to new admissions and visitors.
It has now been deep cleaned and reopened yesterday.
However, ward 6C, which closed on Thursday, November 12, is still shut and is now unlikely to reopen until next week.
Eight patients on the cardiac ward have shown symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting, with four having tested positive for norovirus.
Visiting is now being kept to an absolute minimum,
Norovirus, which causes diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting, can spread in the air where someone has had diarrhoea or has vomited and is difficult to contain.
It may also spread by touching contaminated surfaces.
